Spectacular Spring Entertainment Preview

Winter is finally gone and that means it’s time for spring and summer fun. Be sure to add a few of these great shows to your agenda.

April 11 & May 9 – Penny Arcade: Kids Comedy Show – Arcade Comedy Theater
If you haven’t checked out the Arcade Comedy Theater downtown, you’re  missing out. Not only are tickets super cheap, but many shows are all for ages like the Penny Arcade: Kids Comedy Show. The show is improvised on the spot using audience feedback. Before the show, the audience participates in “collaboration stations” with crafts and literary prompts to help generate ideas later used in the show. After every show there is also a meet and greet with the cast and “improv” games.

May 17 – Nitro Circus – Consol Energy Center
Featuring 40 extreme performers, the Nitro Circus will feature the latest FMX, BMX and skating tricks as well as tricycle, ski, bathtub and even Barbie car stunts!

April 18 – Chubby Checker & The Wild Cats – Capitol Music Hall, Wheeling, WV
Get ready to do “The Twist” with this musical icon who still puts on a fantastic show after more than 55 years on the road. His first #1 hit – “The Twist” – was released in 1960!

April 19- Puddle of Mudd – Altar Bar
While they’ve hit some rough spots over the years, Puddle of Mudd is still touring to packed bars around the nation. Best known for their hits like “Control,” “Blurry” and “She Hates Me.”

April 21 – Kid Ink – Xtaza Nightclub
Fresh off the release of his third album in February, rapper Kid Ink is worth a trip downtown.

April 24 – Cold Fronts with Made
Violent – Smiling Moose
It’s been a whirlwind few years for Cold Fronts as they’ve toured with mewithoutyou and The Gay Blades, performing to packed houses and at major events. Be first on your block to check out these up and coming artists so you can say you were a fan before they were famous.

April 25 – The Mavericks – Carnegie Library Music Hall in Homestead
You know you’re in for an exciting evening when a show has as a disclaimer: “Please note: The Mavericks Dance Alert! Spontaneous, joyous dancing could erupt at any moment. Please choose your seats wisely.” Don’t miss your chance to “Dance the Night Away” with hits like “All You Ever Do is Bring Me Down” and “Here Comes the Rain.”

May 2 – Iron Chic with the Remainders, DIVORCE, World’s Scariest Police Chases – FREE! – Cattivo
There’s no excuse for not checking out this great show. You can even RSVP for priority entry online.

May 4 – Ben Folds – Carnegie Library Music Hall in Homestead
You know him as the front man for Ben Folds Five and as a judge on “The Singoff” and now you can catch this musical giant solo.

May 6 – Halestorm – Stage AE
Support a homegrown Pennsylvania band when Halestorm takes the stage at Stage AE. Touring to promote their second album, The Strange Case Of… featuring lead single “Love Bites (So Do I), this band is really coming into their own lately. Known for their non-stop touring (averaging more than 250 shows a year), the group has shared the stage with many well-known artists like Disturbed, Avenge Sevenfold, Stone Sour and more.

May 13 – Breaking Benjamin – Stage AE
Another Pennsylvania group will hit Stage AE this spring, Breaking Benjamin. Founded in 1998 by Benjamin Burnley in Wilkes-Barre, Breaking Benjamin is best known for their hit songs “Until the End” and “I Will Not Bow.”

May 14 – Hellyeah – Altar Bar
Don’t miss heavy metal supergroup, HellYeah, comprised of band members from Mudfvayne, Pantera, Damageplan, and Nothingface. Together, these music forces will be unstoppable.

June 20 – Beth Hart – Carnegie Library Music Hall in Homestead
Known for her hit 1999 single, “LA Song (Out of This Town)” and fresh off her 2014 Grammy Award, Beth Hart will delight audiences with her diverse music which has landed her in the #1 slot on charts worldwide.

June 21 – Los Lonely Boys – Altar Bar
Combining elements of rock and roll, Texas blues, country and Tejano, the Los Lonely Boys rose to popularity in the early 2000s with their debut hit, “Heaven” which hit #1 one on the Billboard chart. The trio of brothers continues to produce outstanding music and this show promises to be superb.

April 18 – Knights of the Arcade: Epic D&D Comedy Adventure – Arcade Comedy Theater
You don’t need to be a D&D fan to love this show where comedians, improvisers and tried-and-true geeks play a game of D&D live on stage each month. On a quest to build the show entirely from suggestions, every performance is quite unique.

April 23-26 – Godfrey – Pittsburgh Improv
Best known for his appearances on Comedy Central, BET, VH1 and feature films like “Soul Plane” and “Zoolander,” Godfrey will make you laugh until you hurt.

May 7-9 – Lisa Landry – Pittsburgh  Improv
Known for her appearances on “The Late Show with Craig Ferguson” and “The Bonnie Hunt Show,” Lisa Landry’s quick wit and humor is sure to keep you laughing.

June 4-7 – Aries Spears – Pittsburgh Improv
Best known for his regular appearances on MADtv, for 198 episodes, he is also known in the film industry for his appearances in Jerry Maguire and The Pest.

June 6 – Dinner with the Nolens  – Arcade Comedy Theater
A monthly event, “Dinner with the Nolens” is a long-form improvisational performance with theater co-owners Jethro Nolen and Kristy Nolen. Each month, they invite another improv duo to dinner and perform with them.

June 18 – Pablo Franscico  – Pittsburgh Improv
You never know who you might “hear” at a Pablo Francisco show. This comedian is known for his spot-on vocal impressions of famous people like Howard Stern, Casey Kasem, Gary Busey, Ozzy Osbourne and many more.
