KID’S CLASSES

Mondays

Dates: Sept. 15, 22, 29 Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27, Nov. 3

Digital Music Making w/ Alex Riedel

Ages: 13-17

Fee: $110

In this class students will learn to make music with computer generated and recorded sounds. Learn the basics of MIDI sequencing, sound recording, composition, and arrangement. No experience necessary!

Children’s Pottery: Jennifer Adamson

Ages: 7-11

Fee: $75.00

Time: 4:30-5:45

Learn to make pottery in this fun class! Sculpture, vessels and other forms will take shape week by week! (Due to the processes involved not all projects will be ready to take home on the last class)

Explorations in Drawing: Rachel Barnyak

Ages: 9-12

Fee: $75.00

Time: 4:30-5:45

Drawing from life, basic techniques and more will be explored in this super fun class.

Simply Music

Simply Music Rhapsody is a fresh approach to early childhood music education. Through the use of unique instruments, puppets, and a no-hurry approach, young children are engaged every step of the way. The Simply Music Rhapsody journey begins at birth and continues for a lifetime. Young students are fully prepared for Simply Music playing-based piano lessons and learning other instruments through their participation in this amazing program.

Altered T Shirts w/ Gary JacksonAltered T- Shirts: Gary Alan Jackson

In this class, students will learn to modify and transform tired, old t-shirts into unique statements in fashion! We’ll cover cutting, fitting and various methods of textural alterations belonging to the world of couture. This is a true fashion class, and the techniques you learn here will help you progress on your path to individuality.

Creature Double Feature: Kim Stocker

Ages: 9-12

You have the power to create a creature. First, choose one which you have either observed or experienced in your dreams or nightmares. Start with a sketch and “”make it so”” with clay, metal, paint and other embellishments. We will begin with rounded forms, based on balloons as armatures, and add/subtract from there. Form, color, texture and style will all be addressed and expressed. Come join in the fun!”

Rock Lab

Ages:13-17

Fee:$120

In Rock Lab students of all ability levels will be able to learn to play as a group. While learning to play rock, blues and jazz, students will also learn basic music theory along with studying songwriting, song forms and chart reading. All instruments welcome!

Art Explosion: Wash Arts Instructors

Age: 5-8

Art Explosion is back! Musical instruments, Book Art, and Assemblage, Wall Mosaics and more in this class designed to break out of the norm. Explore projects in several mediums!.

Students will receive individualized instruction. Discover your own style and work at your own pace to expand your hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques. Several projects will be completed using a variety of glazing and firing techniques. Price includes 25lbs of clay and use of studio tools and glazes.

Open Draw

Adult: 18+

The Open Studio is offered as an opportunity for everyone to practice drawing or painting from a live model. There are eight-three hour sessions during which the model will take poses ranging in duration from two minutes to two hours. A monitor will be present to time and arrange poses and set the lights and provide assistance as needed. Participants will provide their own materials. You may bring your own easel or drawing horse. Wash Arts will also have easels available.

Beginning Metalsmithing: Lindsay Huff

Adult: 18+

Fee: $200.00

Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm

Learn the fundamentals of metalsmithing and enameling in this project-based course. Acquire a wide range of skills by learning basic forming and construction techniques using stakes and hammers, sawing, riveting, bezel setting, annealing and soldering. Add textures by embossing, and add color and finishes with the use of enamels, patinas and polishing techniques. Experiment with all the covered techniques and materials as you create bracelets, rings, pendants, earrings, and brooches.

This course will feature guided exercises designed to help you discover your inner songwriting or help you improve your song writing by inspiring each other. This course will also explore basic compositional song structure and music theory and exercises designed to inspire better lyric writing, including salon style group writing exercises. Each class will also include a performance portion in which students are encouraged to play their own pieces for critiquing.

Special Topics in Metalsmithing: Lindsay Huff

Sketchbook Journaling

Adults: 18+

Join watercolor artist Leslie Fehling for a fun-filled, no-pressure introduction to expressing yourself creatively through illustrated sketchbook journaling. Lessons on drawing, watercolor painting, lettering, and composition will help you to develop your own style. No art experience is necessary – only an open mind, inquiring spirit, and willingness to learn. Before long, you’ll be seeing your world through new eyes, as you record the everyday things of life in your sketchbook. (For ages 16-adult)

Pastels Workshop: Brian McDermott

Brian McDermott will be a hosting pastel workshop at Wash Arts! This course will cover: applications, technique, trouble-shooting, and various themes of fine art – using pastel. Learn the basics or improve techniques with a master! This is a two day workshop.

Raku firing is an experience like no other! Come an experience this modern version of an ancient art; glazes will be provided. Price includes 6 pieces no taller than 8″ in height.

Make Better Recordings Workshop

Adult 18+

Fee: $120

Two day workshop, 3 hour sessions

Time: 1:00pm – 4:00 pm

Dates: Saturday September 27th and October 4th

Session 1 will focus on recording studio signal path, selecting the right microphone for the right sound source and microphone placement. Live instruments and players will be used for demonstrations.

Session 2 will be all about mixing; attendees are encouraged to bring in mixes for trouble shooting and critiquing from our resident audio engineer and from other students. Students will learn about the role and use of compressors
